Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society: Grants-in-Aid of Research
The Sigma Xi, Grants-in-Aid of Research fund offers small research grants for direct costs of scientific research projects for college students only (salaries and stipends are excluded). Sigma Xi has a long-standing commitment to providing young scientists with "seed money" for research projects in all fields of the sciences and engineering. Today, Sigma Xi grant awards range from under $100 to $1000, with some special funds permitting larger grants.
Sigma Xi funds are open to applicants who are themselves active (dues-paying) Sigma Xi members or whose faculty advisors are active members. Sigma Xi funds cover all fields of science, including the social sciences, and make up approximately 75% of Grants-in-Aid of Research funds.
Active membership in Sigma Xi is not a requirement to apply for National Academy of Science (NAS) Grants-in-Aid of Research funds administered by Sigma Xi. These funds cover all fields of science, excluding social sciences. NAS funds make up approximately 25% of Grants-in-Aid of Research awards.
Please visit our Web site for the most current information and applications available. We now use a Web-based format and ask that individuals submit their applications via our interactive, on-line forms. Our deadlines are March 15 and October 15 annually.
