The
Society of Research Administrators International is a nonprofit association dedicated to the education and professional development of research administrators, as well as the enhancement of public understanding of the importance of research and its administration.
The U.S.-based
National Council of University Research Administrators Web site has a
useful list of university research offices across the country.
Membership in the
American Association of University Administrators (AAUA) is open to career administrators in any accredited college, university, or other post-secondary organization. The AAUA membership includes presidents, deans, directors, department chairpersons, and individuals working in a variety of other administrative positions. A special membership category is open to individuals retired from the profession, and another serves students training for a career in university administration.
The
Canadian Association of University Research Administrators is a national association of individuals committed to advancing the profession; to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of research administration at Canadian universities and other post-secondary institutions; to maintaining a strong presence and coherent voice on key issues relevant to research; and to fostering co-operation and links with other organizations active in the management and administration of research.

European Association of Research Managers and Administrators aims to improve the function of research management and administration and thereby the excellence and competitiveness of European research.

Training Opportunities
The
Center for Science and Research Management
Zentrum Für Wissenschaftsmagagement (ZWM) in Speyer, Germany, is described as a forum for science and research management and was established as a self-help initiative to promote the professionalisation of research management. It offers courses of interest to science and research managers in public, private, and industrial research institutions. An example is the one-semester in-house
Complementary Study Course for Junior Science and Research related Managers.
This course includes modules such as human capital management, science-orientated accounting, and change management. The ZWM also runs short courses and is an active national and international networking platform for the profession. The ZWM works closely with the
European Association of Research Managers and Administrators and the
Heads of University Management and Administration Network in Europe.
George Washington University's
Center for International Science and Technology Policy runs a master?s in international science and technology policy. It also carries out research projects for a variety of government and nongovernment sponsors, organises seminars and symposia on significant science and technology issues, and hosts visitors from other parts of the United States and overseas.
