The fellowships are funded by the American Cancer Society with the objective of fostering a bi-directional flow of knowledge, experience, expertise, and innovation to and from the USA. They enable beginning investigators and clinicians, who are in the early stages of their careers, to carry out basic or clinical research projects and to develop, acquire, and apply advanced research procedures and techniques in the areas of epidemiology, prevention, causation, detection, diagnosis, treatment, psycho-oncology, through twelve month long work periods abroad.
Deadline: December 1, 2005

American Geriatrics Society: Dennis W. Jahnigen Career Development Scholars Awards

The Jahnigen Scholars program offers two-year career development awards to support young faculty in the specialties of anesthesiology, emergency medicine, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, thoracic surgery, and urology. The award is intended to allow individuals to initiate and sustain a career in research and education in the geriatrics aspects of their discipline.
Deadline: December 6, 2005

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: Distinguished Investigators

The Distinguished Investigator Award is for a maximum of $100,000 over two years. This Award has been created for investigators with a proven history of research in the area of suicide.

Society for Pediatric Research: APS/SPR Student Research Program

The APS and SPR offer a medical student research training program to encourage gifted medical students to consider careers in research related to pediatrics. This program is specifically designed for students seeking a research opportunity at an institution OTHER than their own medical school. Students selected to the program are able to choose or are assigned to leading research laboratories. Currently, our Directory of Laboratories lists research opportunities at more than 300 laboratories in the United States and Canada.
Deadline: January 27, 2006

Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation: Broad Medical Research Program

The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation created the Broad Medical Research Program (BMRP) for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Grants in 2001. The BMRP will provide rapid funding for up to two years for basic or clinical IBD research projects that: (a) are innovative; (b) are in the early stages of exploration; (c) will improve diagnosis, therapy, or prevention of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis in the near future and (d) will lead to funding by more traditional granting agencies. Preference is given to proposals with strong potential of clinical applicability in the foreseeable future. Basic and clinical investigators, scientists not currently working in IBD, and interdisciplinary teams are encouraged to apply.

National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance: Advanced E-Team Grants

The National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance supports faculty and students who believe that the teaching of invention and innovation is critical to American higher education. Its mission is to nurture a new generation of innovators by promoting curricula designed to teach creativity, invention, and entrepreneurship. At the same time, the NCIIA offers faculty a forum where they can share technical information and ideas, learn about new pedagogical techniques, and discuss effective curricular models. A central component of the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance involves the creation of E-Teams: "E" stands for excellence and entrepreneurship. E-Teams are groups of students, faculty, and other professionals who join together to pursue the development of an idea, product, or invention, or to solve a problem in a way that has the promise of creating licensable technology, products, or developing an enterprise that will generate jobs and social benefits. Advanced E-Team grants range in size from $1000 to $20,000. The grant period is typically 12 to 18 months.
