• St. Louis, MO . . . Known as the Gateway to the West, St. Louis is a diverse, vibrant metropolitan area of 2.5 million, with a broad-based economy. Residents enjoy professional sports teams, a world-class symphony orchestra, botanical gardens, and numerous other outdoor activities. Additionally, scientists have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers at Washington University School of Medicine.
• Sandwich, UK . . . Sandwich, once a major port in England but now 2 miles from the sea, is one of the best-preserved Medieval towns in the UK, with its old town walls and "Kent Peg" roof houses. Situated close to the city of Canterbury and only 80 miles from London, the area is steeped in history and is ideal for those who enjoy water sports. The rail links across the English Channel also mean that you can be in France within an hour, providing access to the whole of Europe.
• Amboise, France . . . Established in 1970 with 35 scientists performing research to determine the preclinical safety of compounds destined for the European market. Today, the Amboise site provides toxicology and exploratory study support.
• Nagoya, Japan . . . Established in 1972 at an existing Pfizer facility. An early research mission at Nagoya was screening soil samples for new antibiotics. At Nagoya, Pfizer scientists search for novel compounds, many isolated from natural sources, to determine their therapeutic potentials, and conduct clinical trials to support Japanese regulatory requirements.
• Tokyo, Japan . . . J-Clin, Pfizer's Clinical Development Organization, plans and executes clinical trials in Japan and manages the regulatory activities required to get Pfizer medicines approved for the Japanese market.
