This week we've compiled a list of organizations offering scholarships to eligible students to pursue undergraduate education in Singapore or abroad. This list, which includes awards for scholars from other countries, and international award for incoming as well as outgoing scholars, and awards primarily for Singapore citizens and permanent residents, is distilled from various sources and is by no means exhaustive.

All awards are tenable for the complete duration of the undergraduate degree course. Although we'll try to keep the information comprehensive and up to date, interested parties are advised to contact the relevant authority directly for the latest information on specific requirements, terms, and conditions for the awards, as well as the application deadlines.

Singapore Ministry of Education ASEAN Scholarships

The Singapore Ministry of Education offers the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships to eligible students who are nationals (citizens and permanent residents) of other member countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Students already studying in Singapore may contact the participating universities directly.

The scholarship supports the pursuit of an undergraduate degree (in any discipline except medicine and dentistry) on a full-time basis at the National University of Singapore (NUS) or the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

Applicants must have an outstanding academic record at a level equivalent to the GCE "A" level and should have a good command of the English language. The award covers tuition fees, an annual living allowance of S$3500, and one return economy class air ticket for the scholar's passage between their home country and Singapore.

Duration of Bond: There is no bond attached to this award.

The Singapore Government Scholarship for Hong Kong students

The Singapore Government offers undergraduate scholarships to students from Hong Kong to pursue undergraduate education in engineering (civil/electrical/mechanical), computer engineering, materials engineering or biological sciences at NTU in Singapore.

Applications are open to Hong Kong (SAR) citizens and Hong Kong permanent residents who are sitting for the 2002 HKALE or who have sat for the 2001 Singapore Cambridge GCE "A" Level Examination.

The scholarship covers a settling-in allowance of S$200, a maintenance allowance of S$6000 per annum, hostel allowance, tuition and other compulsory fees, and a return air ticket from Hong Kong.

Singapore Technologies Engineering Scholarship (updated December 2007)

Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) offers scholarships to eligible resident and nonresident students of any nationality to pursue undergraduate education in fields such as engineering, finance, information technology, economics, accountancy, and law that are related to the company's lines of business..

Defence Science and Technology Agency Scholarships

The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) offers the DSTA Scholarships to support eligible students to pursue undergraduate education in a wide variety of courses in science and engineering.

Applicants must be Singapore citizens and have excellent GCE "A" level results. The scholarship covers tuition fees, a maintenance allowance of up to S$7200 per annum, and a return air ticket for professional or vacation attachments, where applicable.

The scholarship is tenable in NUS, NTU, or renowned overseas universities like MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Harvard in the U.S.; Imperial College, Cambridge, and Oxford in the UK; the University of Toronto, McGill University, and British Columbia University in Canada; Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Centrale Paris in France; the Royal Institute of Technology and Lund University in Sweden; and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Scholarships

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore awards undergraduate scholarships to support eligible students in pursuing undergraduate education in fields such as marine engineering, naval architecture, nautical science, maritime studies, economics, information technology, and political science.

Applicants must be Singapore citizens with outstanding GCE "A" level results. The award is tenable at local universities and selected prestigious foreign universities.

The local award covers tuition fees, compulsory fees, annual allowance, and book allowance. The overseas award covers tuition fees, settling-in, clothing, book, excess baggage and maintenance allowance, and a return economy airfare.

The Singapore Ministry of Defence Scholarships and Awards

The Singapore Ministry of Defence offers the following MINDEF/SAF Scholarships and Awards to eligible students to pursue a wide selection of courses in the fields of science, engineering, communications, computer studies, economics, international relations, politics, arts, and law.

    The scholarships/awards, tenable at universities locally or overseas, cover monthly salary for the entire duration of studies, monthly maintenance allowance, tuition fees and approved charges, as well as clothing and book allowance, plus an annual return air ticket, where applicable.

    PSA Corp. Scholarship

    PSA Corp. offers scholarships to eligible students to pursue undergraduate education in any field except medicine, dentistry, and architecture.

    The local scholarship includes an annual S$6000 allowance, tuition fees, hostel fees, and book allowance. The overseas award covers a monthly maintenance allowance, tuition fees, settling-in allowance, initial clothing allowance, book allowance, and return airfare from Singapore.

    Singapore Public Service Commission Scholarships

    The Public Service Commission offers a large variety of awards to students interested in a career in the Singapore Civil Service. The awards are as follows:

    Scholarships are tenable locally or overseas in the UK, U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Japan, People's Republic of China, Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan.

    The terms and conditions for the awards vary, but generally the awards cover tuition fees, maintenance allowance, and accommodation cost. Overseas awards include an additional settling-in allowance and return airfare, and any other expenses, where applicable.

    Duration of Bond: 4 to 6 years The Singapore Stock Exchange Scholarship The Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) offers undergraduate scholarships to students eligible for admission into the first year of study in 2002 at institutions approved by SGX.

    Applicants must be Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents and must have achieved good GCE "A" level results. The scholarship, S$10,000 per academic year, supports courses such as accountancy, business, computer science, economics, financial engineering, information technology, mathematics, statistics, as well as other approved disciplines.

    The award is tenable at NUS, NTU, and Singapore Management University.

    The Monetary Authority of Singapore Scholarships

    The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) offers undergraduate scholarship awards to eligible students to study a wide range of subjects at local as well as overseas universities.
