American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology: ERT Faculty Development Award
To support a junior faculty member in the specialty of allergy, asthma, and immunology. Funding is to support research in basic and/or clinical allergy and immunology and to promote the specialty. The award is offered every other year. Next award cycle is in 2005.

American Association for Cancer Research : AACR Minority Scholar Awards in Cancer Research
AACR Minority Scholar Awards in Cancer Research are offered to eligible minority scientists wishing to attend the Annual Meeting and Special Conferences of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). The awards are supported by a generous grant from the Comprehensive Minority Biomedical Program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Those eligible for these awards are graduate and medical students, residents, and clinical and postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty from minority groups considered underrepresented in cancer research by the NCI, i.e., African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and Native Pacific Islanders.

American Heart Association: Florida/Puerto Rico Affiliate - Health Science Student Fellowship
To provide opportunities for health science students to work for at least three months consecutively with a faculty member on any project related to the mission of the American Heart Association. The goal is to encourage students to consider a future academic career in this area. This program is targeted to predoctoral M.D., D.O., D.D.S., PharmD., DVM (or equivalent) health science students.

American Society for Microbiology: UNESCO-ASM Visiting Resource Person Program
Members of the ASM who will be visiting developing nations on academic or other business can arrange to spend a day with colleagues at a University or Research Institute in a major city. UNESCO has provided ASM with funds to cover the cost of the extra day's stay in that nation. The ASM member is expected to present a seminar to faculty and students in the institution and to spend the rest of the visit as a resource person discussing novel ideas for scientific research, curriculum development and international co-operation with local faculty and students.

American Otological Society Research Fund : AOS Clinician-Scientist Award
The American Otological Society, Inc., through its Research Fund, is offering Research Grant Awards, an Award for a Clinical Trial, full-time Research Training Fellowships, and a Clinician-Scientist Award. Research supported by the Research Grant Awards and by the Award for a Clinical trial must be focused on the study of otosclerosis or Ménière's disease. A description of the relationship between the research study and otosclerosis or Ménière's disease is an integral part of the application. The full-time Research Training Fellowships and the Clinician-Scientist Award can support the training of the recipient in research on any topic related to ear disorders.

Sandler Program for Asthma Research : Asthma Research Program
SPAR's mission to develop important new pathways of investigation in basic research on the pathogenesis of asthma. Because the program seeks groundbreaking ideas, outstanding investigators from outside the field of asthma are particularly encouraged to apply. Preliminary results are not required. The application is brief, and there is a quick turnaround time for review. Investigators with prior experience in asthma research are eligible to apply, but they must demonstrate that the proposed work represents a departure from their current and past research. Another important objective of the Program is to promote scientific interaction between Awardees. To faciliate this, an Annual Meeting of Awardees is held.

For the purposes of this announcement, biomedical research includes such areas as cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, genetics, etc., and behavioral research as well as the more quantitative areas such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer sciences, necessary to analyze biological phenomena.

US Department of Energy- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory:: Energy Manipulation Technologies
The Internships in Energy Manipulation Technologies (IEMT) will prepare undergraduate and graduate students-who are U.S. citizens-in electrical and electronic engineering with research opportunities contributing to the completion of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees and future employment opportunities at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The Defense Science Engineering Division (DSED) serves as an electrical engineering division supporting the Defense & Nuclear Technologies (D&NT) Directorate. It is responsible for a broad range of electrical engineering activities supporting both the weapon engineering and nuclear explosive science activities.

In an effort to promote American students' interest in pursuing scientific and technical careers, the National Nuclear Secuirty Administration (NNSA) has championed partnerships between its world-class national laboratories and U.S. universities. One example of this is the Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASCI) Pipeline. The goal of this program is to increase the students majoring in computer science who represent America's ethnic diversity, and their awareness of ASCI opportunities at NNSA /Defense Programs laboratories and to increase the numbers of students pursuing careers in the new scientific discipline of high-performance, computer-based modeling and simulation.
