National Integrated Water Quality Program

Impacts of bioenergy development on water use and water quality: All bioenergy systems need to be analyzed and compared comprehensively in regards to their water usage. Projects are expected to explore sustainable biofuel production and analyze environmental impacts generated from feedstock growth to biofuel production and delivery. We want to understand which crops are best suited for bioenergy production in a specific region and the impacts of land-use change on water resources resulting from bioenergy feedstock growth. Remoted Analog-to-Digital Converter With De-serialization and Reconstruction (RADER)

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is soliciting innovative research proposals for developing power-efficient and remotable high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with high resolution. The proposed program, Remoted Analog-to-Digital Converters With De-serialization and Reconstruction (RADER), should research innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in analog-to-digital conversion. ADC systems enabled by RADER technology will be capable of operating in continuous time over a 10 GHz input instantaneous bandwidth (IBW) with a resolution of 10 effective number of bits. Ultimately, it is desirable to be able to place the 10 GHz IBW so that input signals with frequency content of up to 18 GHz are captured. However, RADER-technology demonstrations will focus on 10 GHz IBW at baseband (all phases) in addition to 6 GHz IBW centered at 15 GHz (Phase III). Of particular interest is achieving these impressive goals within a dense input signal environment while simultaneously limiting to less than 50 watts the amount of dc power consumed. Furthermore, in most applications, it is advantageous to sense analog waveforms at a point remoted from the components or subsystems that require significant portions of the power budget. The realization of such a continuous time analog-to-digital system would create a unique new capability beyond the range of existing ADCs. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice. Deadline: 2009-07-28
