-
AHA National Clinical Research Program
This program encourages early-career investigators who have appropriate and supportive mentoring relationships to engage in high-quality introductory and pilot clinical studies that will guide future strategies for reducing cardiovascular disease and stroke while fostering new research in clinical and translational science and encouraging community and population-based activities. This grant is not intended to fund basic science or to support senior researchers but encourages mentoring of early-career investigators. Deadline: 2009-07-22
- Department of Defense.
-
DOD Autism Concept Awards
The Autism Research Program Concept Awards support the exploration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory that addresses an important problem relevant to autism spectrum disorders. The Concept Award is not intended to support a logical progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows principal investigators the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation. Deadline: 2009-06-24, 2009-07-15. Preapplication, including letter of intent, is due 24 June 2009. The application deadline is 15 July 2009.

Bioenergetics, Fatigability, and Activity Limitations in Aging (R21)
This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages R21 applications proposing to study bioenergetic factors underlying increased fatigability and activity limitations in aging. Increased fatigability is a significant cause of restricted physical and cognitive activity in older adults. Alterations in bioenergetics--the production and utilization of energy and the regulation of these processes--may contribute significantly to increased fatigability. This FOA encourages applications that propose to: (1) elucidate specific alterations in bioenergetics related to increased fatigability and activity limitations, (2) develop and evaluate improved measures of fatigability related to bioenergetics, and (3) evaluate interventions for increased fatigability and activity limitations that target alterations in bioenergetics and lead to improved quality of life. This FOA will use the National Institutes of Health Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism. Deadline: 2009-10-16, 2010-02-16, 2010-06-16

Bioenergetics, Fatigability, and Activity Limitations in Aging (R03)
This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Small Research Grant (R03) applications proposing to study bioenergetic factors underlying increased fatigability and activity limitations in aging. The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects, including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.
