Landon Foundation-AACR INNOVATOR Award for Cancer Prevention Research

The field of cancer prevention research is rapidly advancing and evolving. To sustain the advancement of the field and the development of new thinking and strategies, younger investigators must be encouraged to pursue cancer prevention research, yet few vehicles exist to recognize their accomplishments or support their early research efforts. This award is being established to recognize the outstanding achievement of an early career assistant professor, and to provide support for cancer prevention research of significant scientific merit in any discipline across the continuum of research. The goals of the program are to: (1) encourage younger investigators to pursue cancer prevention research of significant scientific merit; (2) provide the support necessary to sustain and enhance highly meritorious cancer prevention research; (3) foster interactions between and among cancer scientists and disseminate the scientific knowledge about cancer prevention research; and (4) contribute to a global impact against cancer. A 2-year grant of $100,000 ($50,000 per year) will be provided to the recipient's institution to support direct research expenses; salary and benefits; and attendance at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting, Cancer Prevention Conference, or other AACR meeting relevant to cancer prevention for the purpose of participating in scholarly exchange. Landon Foundation-AACR INNOVATOR Award for International Collaboration

International research collaboration can successfully address the global health program of cancer through access to unique populations and environments, shared resources, specialized expertise, new concepts and perspectives, innovative methodologies, and/or emerging technologies. However, barriers to sustaining these collaborations exist such as the lack of funding and the sharing of knowledge about these important research partnerships. This award is being established to support highly meritorious research that is being conducted collaboratively by investigators in different countries around the world. The goals of the program are to: (1) overcome barriers to international collaboration by providing funding for costs traditional grant mechanisms may not support; (2) raise the profile of the importance of collaboration to conquering the cancer problem; and (3) provide the means to facilitate travel and the sharing of knowledge that otherwise may have been difficult to achieve. The amount of $100,000 will be provided to the recipients' institutions in the form of a 2-year grant to support the collaborative research project, and may be used for such purposes as (1) the salary and benefits of postdoctoral or clinical research fellows and/or research assistants; (2) equipment; (3) supplies; (4) travel between the collaborators' institutions relevant to the collaboration; (5) training in new techniques that will benefit the collaboration; and (6) presentations of research data at scientific meetings.
