Earlier this week, Chemical & Engineering News published an article offering advice to job seekers on how to increase their odds of finding employment in a tough job market. C&EN first gathered questions from job seekers through LinkedIn, the American Chemical Society (ACS) Network, and several blogs. Then they got industry leaders and recruiters at Genentech, Aegis Sciences, and job search site Proven, as well as ACS career advisers, to answer those questions.

The article, authored by Linda Wang, tackles important questions such as whether it is a good strategy to apply for jobs that require lower qualifications; what doing multiple postdocs says to an employer; how you can improve the visibility of your resume in computer databases; and how an applicant's social media presence can backfire.
