Dr. Ikhide Imumorin
Dr. Ikhide Imumorin assumes the position of Assistant Professor of Animal Molecular and Quantitative Genetics at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY on July 1, 2009. Until June, 2009, he serves as Assistant Professor of Genetics and Molecular Biology at Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia where he taught courses in genetics, bioethics, molecular biology and bioinformatics. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in animal sciences from Federal University of Technology Owerri and Akure, both in Nigeria respectively. He graduated with a PhD in Animal Molecular Genetics from Texas A&M University and trained as a postdoctoral research fellow in human genetics and genetic epidemiology at University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. He has held previous teaching positions at Texas A&M University, College Station, Valdosta State University, Valdosta, GA and Federal University of Technology, Akure (Nigeria).
His current research in mammalian genetics includes whole genome analysis and genomic imprinting in Bovidae, epigenetic phenomena in metabolic syndrome and genetics of small ruminants in Sub-Sahara Africa. He has published peer reviewed articles in journals like BMC Genomics, Cardiovascular Toxicology, Diabetes Care, Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis & Vascular Biology and contributed papers and abstracts to national and international conferences. His research has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and the National Research Initiative Program of US Dept of Agriculture.
Dr. Imumorin has served as a grant panel member for the USDA Animal Genome Research Program, ad-hoc reviewer for NSF and manuscripts reviewer for Animal Genetics, BMC Genetics, Croatian Medical Journal, Genomics, Mammalian Genome, and Molecular Reproduction and Development. He holds memberships in Sigma Xi, American Society of Animal Science, Genetics Society of America, International Society of Animal Genetics and International Genetic Epidemiology Society.
