The Science Careers Forum allows you to post questions and respond to questions posted by your peers. The following information will explain how the forum works and the rules that we ask all participants to abide by. By using this Forum, you are indicating your acceptance to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. AAAS may revise these Terms and Conditions at any time by updating this posting. Visit this page periodically to review the Terms and Conditions which are binding on you.
- You agree to provide an e-mail address as a way of verifying the source of your posting and as an alternative method of communication if we need to direct additional help or resources to you. You may choose not to have your e-mail address or organization name displayed publicly by un-checking the box next to your e-mail address and/or organization name when posting a new message. Your e-mail address will not be accessible to spammers.
- You agree to use a name when posting. If you prefer not to use your real name, use an alternative name but please do not use nicknames, screen names, or "chat room handles."
- You agree, through your use of this Forum, that you will not use this Forum to publish any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy or that otherwise violates any law.

- You hereby agree to hold AAAS and its affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees and assigns and the Forum moderator harmless from and against, and hereby waive any right to pursue, any claims of any nature arising in connection with the inclusion in, publication via or display on the Site, or any other use authorized under these Terms, of any content or information submitted to the Site by you.
AAAS is not responsible for the contents of any message or other Forum posting. Messages and other posted content express the views of the author and not necessarily the views of AAAS. Help with Using Forum
Thread Mode vs. Message Mode
Thread: A thread is started by posting a new question or topic. Each message posted in response to the original question becomes part of the thread.Message: Each posted question or response is considered a message.
Default view: by Thread and Date in chronological descending order.
At the very top of the forum there is a drop-down field that allows you to choose to view the forum by Threads or Messages.

By choosing Threads the Forum will sort the contents by each individual Thread in chronologically descending order (most current threads first).

By choosing Messages the Forum will display Messages in chronologically descending order (most current messages first).

Sorting By Subject, Author, or Date Posted
From either the Thread mode or the Message mode you can sort the threads or messages by Subject, Author, or Date Posted. An arrow pointing up or down next to the column header (Subject, Author or Date) indicates which column you are currently sorting by. If the arrow is pointing upward you are sorting in ascending order, if the arrow is pointed downward then you are sorting in descending order.
Sorting by Subject
By left clicking once on the word Subject at the top of the column you can sort the Threads or Messages in alphabetical order in ascending or descending order.
Sorting by Author
By left clicking once on the word Author at the top of the column you can sort the Threads or Messages in alphabetical order in ascending or descending order.
Sorting by Date
By left clicking once on the word Date at the top of the column you can sort the Threads or Messages in ascending or descending order.
Viewing Threads or Messages by Time Period
Default: All
By using the drop down at the top of the forum, you may choose to view only Threads or Messages from the last 60 days, 120 days, 1 year, 2 years, or All.

Selecting the number of Threads or Messages you view on a page
At the bottom of the Forum you will see a drop down which will allow you to select the number of Threads or Messages that you see on each page. If you are in Thread mode you will see the choice of "threads per page" if you are in Message mode you will see the choice of "messages per page."

Moving from page to page
You can either choose the Page you are viewing by using the Page Drop Down at the bottom middle of the Forum, or click on the Next option located at the bottom lower right of Forum, which shows the number of Threads or Messages you are currently viewing.

To Start a Thread
Click on Start New Thread button at the top right of Forum. You will be directed to a page where you can post your message. Please note: You can choose not to have your e-mail address or organization name displayed publicly by unchecking the box next to your e-mail address when posting a new message.

To respond to a Message
Click on the hyperlinked message in the Subject column. You will be directed to a page where you can post your response to any given message.
