World - Interleukin 6 - Conference

May 14- 17, 2014 in Kiel (Germany)

Under the auspices of

the International Cytokine and Interferon Society (ICIS)

World-Interleukin 6-Conference of the International Cytokine and Interferon Society (ICIS) organized by Tadamitsu Kishimoto and Stefan Rose-John on latest scientific breakthroughs and clinical developments of Interleukin 6 blockade in autoimmune diseases.

TADAMITSU KISHIMOTO  Laboratory of Immune Regulation, Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences, Osaka University , Japan

STEFAN ROSE-JOHN  Institute of Biochemistry , Christian-Albrechts Universität Kiel, Kiel, Germany

The Midyear Joint Meeting 2014 is dedicated to the cytokine Interleukin-6. Interleukin-6 is a classical inflammatory cytokine, which is the major inducer of the hepatic acute phase response. A pivotal role of Interleukin-6 in the development of T-cell populations important for inflammatory processes has been defined during the last years. The blockade of Interleukin-6 activity by the monoclonal antibody Tocilizumab for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis has been approved in more than 100 countries. Other ways of blocking Interleukin-6 activity are under preclinical and clinical development. It has been many years since the last monothematic conference on Interleukin-6 and related cytokines. The main objective of the Meeting in Kiel is to bring together the outstanding experts in Interleukin-6 biology and pathophysiology. Moreover, the state of the art on Interleukin-6 and interleukin-6 receptor as therapeutic targets will be discussed and clinical experience will be presented. The participants will be invited to present data and interact with the experts in the Interleukin-6 field.

Recent Midyear Meetings were held with great success on IL-1 cytokines in Clearwater, Florida in 2011 and on IL-17 in Dublin, Ireland in 2012. The Kiel meeting will also be a perfect platform for interactions between scientists involved in basic science, and translational research on Interleukin-6 biology. In addition, with the inclusion of disease-oriented sessions our objective is to create interactions with clinical researchers and scientists involved in drug development.
