SOMETHING TO GET YOUR HEAD AROUND! [1]

The Medical Research Council [2] provides funding for research training in neuro- and bioinformatics including PhD and Advanced Course Studentships. For more information contact bioinformatics@headoffice.mrc.ac.uk [3] or the Studentships Section, Research Career Awards, Medical Research Council, 20 Park Crescent, London W1N 4AL. Tel: 020 7636 5422 ext. 6133 (24-hour answering machine).

The European Science Foundation's Network for Computational Neurosciences aims to promote the education of young scientists and this Web site [4] gives details of symposia and workshops on neuroinformatics.

The Institute of Neuroinformatics [5] at the University of Zurich was established in 1995 and has a very useful set of links including lists of European and worldwide centres that are conducting neuroinformatic research.

Computational Neuroscience in Europe [6] is another Web site dedicated to providing information about neuroscience and neuroinformatics in Europe. Click onto 'research groups' to get a list of laboratories carrying out this research.

The U.S. National Institute of Mental Health has provided funding for the Human Brain Project [7]. This is a broad-based initiative that supports research and development of advanced technologies and encourages co-operation and communication between neuroscientists and information scientists. This site is a useful source of information for research currently carried out in the U.S.
